Body of work
A body of work developed through practice
For more than two decades, Vongai has worked across leadership, organisational development, the United Nations system, independent advisory practice, global education networks, governance and institution-building.
Across those settings, she became increasingly interested in a recurring institutional question: what happens when frameworks created in one context become accepted as universal ways of judging capability, leadership, merit or progress?
Today, that question informs her writing, institutional practice and current work on Borrowed Mirrors.

Ideas
Four vantage points on one question
The same question is approached from four directions: the frameworks institutions inherit, the fit between strategy and context, the person doing the leading, and the way institutions distribute legitimacy. Each vantage point carries its own writing, application and record.
Inherited frameworks
How assumptions embedded in models and systems shape what institutions can recognise.
Contextual coherence
Whether strategies, structures and ways of working fit the realities they are intended to serve.
Leadership, identity and authorship
How identity, history and inherited expectations shape the person doing the leading.
Institutions, power and legitimacy
How institutions define evidence, capability, credibility and value.
Current inquiry
Borrowed Mirrors
How the Frameworks We Trust Decide Who and What Counts

Launching 12 October 2026
Borrowed Mirrors is Vongai's next book and public inquiry into what happens when institutions rely on inherited lenses whose assumptions are rarely questioned: who counts, what counts, and who decides. It has its own home, where the inquiry is developed in public ahead of the launch on 12 October 2026.
